Customer Safety Comes First
For many homeowners, losing heat during a severe cold snap isn’t just an inconvenience—it can quickly become serious. This was the case for one homeowner during the extreme cold snap of January 2025. Their home indoor air temperature dropped to 56°F and the temperature continued to fall on this Friday afternoon. Recognizing the urgency, this homeowner fortunately reached out to Blue Conservation for assistance.
Blue Conservation prioritized the call and one of our caring and committed technicians was dispatched to the residence. They arrived at 1:30 in the afternoon and stayed until nearly 8:00 pm.
The owner, in their initial call, indicated that it was an older combi-boiler unit. The Blue Conservation Technician commenced troubleshooting and found that the three-way valve was bad. Unfortunately, after replacing the valve, there was still no heat. Further troubleshooting revealed that the old unit board had also gone bad. This too was replaced with parts available from inside the service van. Success! The heat came back on. At this point another company’s technician may have left. However, Blue Conservation goes the extra mile and looks for the root cause when equipment breakdowns occur.
The technician saw that an external pump with incorrect wiring had contributed to the failed valve and discussed these concerns with the customer, not wanting to wire this pump to the new board and risk a repeat. However, the pump controller was not an available part and had to be located or ordered. To ensure that the owner had heat throughout the weekend and prevent a recurring failure, our technician removed the external pump attachment and ran it in a way that enabled water circulation and would protect the unit. However, this was a temporary fix. Blue Conservation was able to return with the pump controller and made a permanent fix just a few days later.
