Considerations for Selecting a Boiler or Combi-Boiler
High-efficiency boilers are available in wall-mounted or standing floor units. Combi-boilers offer high-efficiency service for your home heating needs. These units are often smaller and up to 20% more efficient than traditional boilers (and they are getting more efficient all the time).

Combi-Boiler Installation
Here is an overview of a typical combi-boiler installation:

Removal (If Required)
The existing hydronic boiler and hot water tank will be dismantled and removed. All recyclable items will be taken to a scrap/salvage yard, including the existing boiler, hot water tank, and old copper and iron piping.

Venting
The intake and exhaust venting will be installed per manufacturer specification. The exhaust pipe will be run in centhrotherm/polypropylene tubing through the exterior rear wall and horizontally terminated outside. Intake will be run to the exterior and using PVC. When installing boilers, we prefer to use a venting material specifically designed for venting the exhaust of condensing appliances.

Hot Water & Hydronic Plumbing
The tankless combi is a single unit designed to replace the existing hot water and hydronic heating system. Domestic water lines use L copper or heating-rated PEX with lead-free ball valves and isolation valves. Hydronic supply/return, air separator, expansion tank, and a back-flow preventer are installed. We recommend a magnetic boiler water filter. All domestic plumbing materials are lead-free per state and local laws.

Gas Line Modifications
A new gas line will be run from the closest gas connection with proper sizing requirements. Blue Conservation recommends consulting with the gas utility or provider to confirm adequate gas supply. If your home gas supply needs to be increased, it’s often as simple as installing a larger gas meter or gas regulator—confirm service line capacity before increasing overall gas load.

Electrical Modifications
A 15- or 20-amp two-gang electrical outlet is required to provide power for the combi-boiler, circulator pump, and condensation pump.

Condensate
We will recommend installing a condensate neutralizer and discharge the condensate to a nearby drain using a condensate pump.
